Too much?
My weeks keep being just as busy as I described on the previous entry, or even more. That can be only a synonym of fun. It is an excellent sign! I still "owe you" some photos from my trips to Milan, Düsseldorf and Saarbrücken (well, I didn't take photos there), but there are more to come already! I don't know if I am doing wrong though... I was supposed to hold myself back a bit during the first months of the year in order to have a good summer and travel a bit then. However, that is exactly what I am doing now and I am spending all the money, so I don't know if I will be able to travel later. Besides, the rent is not expensive, ok, but living right in the city centre of the financial capital of the Eurozone is not cheap either... And I am definitely not planning to move from there. Quoting my wise friend Ana: "Rafa, You are right were you have to be. There is nothing sadder than a gay in the outskirts", haha! The first consequence is that I am not going to get that card I mentioned on the previous entry to get 50% discounts on the German trains, for two reasons: it is a lot of money to spend in one go (although it could be convenient in the longer term, but you never know), and not having the discount will prevent me from travelling more than I can actually afford. It is cheap to make unrealistic plans and marks on a map, but... I will still probably keep the one I have now, which is cheaper and I also get some discounts but not as much as with the other.
The latest destinations have been three. Each of these trips would really deserve a whole entry. But I am sorry, this is all I can do at the moment and I have no choice but to squeeze them on one single entry. Some weeks ago I went to Düsseldorf to meet some relatives and then head all together to a town near Dortmund called Schwerte. They have there some German relatives. I already visited this place in early 2003 for a week or so, but this time the reason to go was a special birthday party. The event was superb and not only the people was lovely, but also the place, the food and the party itself. I was very honoured to have been invited to such a familiar thing. It is a real pity that I do not find the time to learn some good German, and very embarrassing when after one year in this country (by the way, time flies and I can't even find a minute to stop and think about it) I still have to say that I don't understand the language... I also had the chance to walk a bit in Düsseldorf for some hours and see some nice areas.
Last weekend I went back to this city, although I did not have time to see anything as the reasons were very different: sports and party! I attended a gay basketball tournament. The experience was great and I am looking forward to repeating. The tournament was part of a bigger multisports event called the Düssel Cup. Sometimes, some cities organise this kind of events and there are more to come in Paris, Bologna, Barcelona, the Eurogames in Rotterdam... Even in Frankfurt in December, although last year there was not basketball competition. We will see if I can make it to some of these... The FVV team (my team) was actually made of patches. I only knew 3 of the other 7 guys (we were 8 finally). Two of them came from Barcelona, they registered as individuals and then they can play with any team that may need players (we were initially only 6). There was another one who lives in Düssedlorf and he has played with FVV sometimes and then the fourth one was a guy from Frankfurt but we had seen each other only once on the trainings, the Monday before actually... In the end, it was a rather international team: 2 Spaniards, 2 Germans, 1 Slovakian, 1 Croatian, 1 Venezuelan and 1 Mongolian! We didn't do it that bad although the final position was not very good. But I think it was good for people who had never played together as a team. The level was excellent, better than expected! They are good playing basketball these faggots, haha! There were some tough games and some very serious teams. The event included, as usual, a great party at night, which was very good fun until 4:30am. I enjoyed a lot partying with my team mates and specially the two guys who came from Barcelona.
And finally, I am right now as I type these lines (although I will see when I can post them) on the train heading to Berlin again. I am going to spend there 4 days to visit some friends and ex-colleagues from Oxford. That will have to come on another entry in the next few weeks. However, it is not the latest trip I have planned so far, as I already have booked tickets to Manchester in early June. I am really looking forward to that too! I haven't been there since I came back from Bahrain.
I don't know if someone can ever have too much fun. If that is possible, then I think I am doing it these weeks. Well, in fact, since this year started. Well, the ground was getting ready already since late last year... Anyway, you may get your stomach full of water or food, and so you can said you had too much. You can get drunk after some Jägermeister, and say that you had too much. You may get a headache after you have studied or watched TV or listened to someone for long hours, and say that it was too much. But I think that in fun, happiness, enjoyment and such things, you can never say that it was too much... And you always want more!
