II-III-IV 2011

Bueno, demasiado tiempo ya posteando poco y más aún sin poner alguna fotillo, sobretodo teniendo en cuenta que me he movido bastante últimamente.

Well, too long posting too little and even longer without posting any photo, especially now that I have moved quite a lot lately.

Empezamos por esta, todo guapo y trajeado, para ir a una fiesta de etiqueta llena de gente VIP. El motivo de la fiesta fue la despedida de un amigo y ex-jefe que se ha marchado del país además del cumpleaños de su pareja (seré educado y no diré la edad). Lo celebramos en su casa, que son unas anfitrionas inmejorables, y el evento fue un exitazo. Respondimos lo mejor que pudimos a su petición de ir bien vestidos.

We start by this one, all cute in a suit, to go to a formal party full of VIPs. The reason for it was the farewell of a friend and ex-boss who has left the country as well as his partner's birthday (I will be polite and won't say the age). It took place at their house, as they are excellent hostesses, and the event was a great success. We met their request of dressing formally as well as we could.


Aquí estoy con mis compañeros de trabajo, mi equipo casi al completo. De izquierda a derecha estamos Carlos, Iván, yo, Javier y Ana. Falta Diego, que no pudo venir a la fiesta. Lo que Javier tiene en la mano es su mascota, el séptimo miembro del equipo: Rata Luisa. Este entrañable personaje tiene su propio perfil en Facebook (¡vamos, hazte amigo suyo!) y se ha convertido en alguien muy querido en la oficina. Sí, Javier está jodidamente loco, pero nos lo quedamos así y no lo cambiamos por nadie (ni por nada).

Here I am with my work colleagues, almost the whole team. From the left to the right: Carlos, Iván, me, Javier and Ana. Diego is missing, he couldn't make it to the party. What Javier is holding in his hand is his pet, the seventh member of the team: Rata Luisa. This lovely character has her own profile on Facebook (go on, become her friend!) and we are all very fond of her at the office. Yes, Javier is fucking crazy, but we keep him like this and don't change him for anyone (or anything).


Esta es Ana, un pilar fundamental desde que he llegado a Frankfurt. Una extraña mezcla de jefecilla, amiga del alma, consejera, cómplice, paño de lágrimas, caja de risa, chute de adrenalina, suministradora de hanutas, pseudohermana, camionero, confesora, novia-que-nunca-será, guía espiritual y princesa Disney.

This is Ana, a crucial support since I arrived to Frankfurt. She is a strange mix of little boss, bosom friend, adviser, shoulder to cry on, box of laughter, adrenaline shot, hanutas provider, pseudosister, truck driver, confessor, girlfriend-that-will-never-be, spiritual guide and Disney princess.


Este es Dani, amigo y ex-jefe, anfitrión de la fiesta. Dani es una mezcla de todo lo divertido, escandaloso, irreverente, optimista, explosivo, ingenioso y bondadoso que te puedes encontrar. Sólo tiene una cosa mala: se ha marchado sin venir a jugar un partido de baloncesto (el cabrón es más alto que yo). Bueno, el resto de equipos a nuestro alrededor seguro que dirían que además es muy ruidoso en la oficina, pero no entendemos por qué, si es más delicado que una Miss...

This is Dani, friend and ex-boss, the party host. Dani is a mix of everything fun, scandalous, irreverent, optimistic, explosive, witty and kindhearted that you can find. He only has one bad thing: he left without coming to play a basketball game (the bastard is taller than me). Well, the rest of the teams around us would say that he is also very loud at the office, but we don't understand why, he is more fragile than a Miss...


Iñaki, más o menos lo mismo que Ana y Dani juntos, pero muuuuucho más tímido. Si algún día se me desencaja la mandíbula, es más que probable que sea inmediatemente después de un comentario suyo (o incluso antes de que termine).

Iñaki, more or less the same as Ana and Dani together, but faaaaar much shyer. If I ever dislocate my mandible, it is more than likely that it happens immediately after one of his comments (or even before he finishes).


Runya, que nos dejará muy pronto por desgracia. No hace falta decir que es una mujer espectacular en todos los sentidos, de pies a cabeza (y es muy alta), por dentro y por fuera. Ya tengo ganas de volver a Londres para ir de compras con ella por Camden.

Runya, who will leave very soon, unfortunately. Needless to say that she is a spectacular woman in all senses, from head to toe (and she is really tall), inside and outside. I am already looking forward to going back to London and shopping with her in Camden.


Pasamos ahora a los días que estuve en Milán visitando a mi amigo Cico. Por suerte, tengo más amigos allí y en Génova, que está cerca. Fueron unos días estupendos.

Now let's see the days I spent in Milan visiting my friend Cico. I am lucky to have more friends there and in Genoa, which is close. I had a really good time there.


Tenía entendido que la ciudad era bastante fea y no hay mucho para ver ni para hacer. Sin embargo, he visto algunos rincones y calles que me han parecido bien chulos. No es tan bonita como otras ciudades en Italia pero tampoco es tan horrible como pensaba.

I had been told that the city was quite ugly and there was not much to see and do. However, I have seen some nice corners and roads that I have found very cute. It is not as spectacular as other cities in Italy but it is not as horrible as I expected either.


Uno de los lugares que más ganas tenía de visitar era la pinacoteca de Brera. Muchos de los cuadros que he estudiado durante la carrera están en este museo.

One of the places that I was very keen to visit was the museum of Brera. Many of the paintings that I have studied at uni are in this place.


Estas dos fotos las saqué en la zona conocida como Navigli. Es un sistema de canales que ya no se utilizan. En esta zona se puede comer en la calle y dar un buen paseo los días que hace bueno. Pero en verano se llena de mosquitos...

I took these two photos in the area of Navigli. It is a canals system that it is not used any more. It is very nice to have a pleasant walk and eat outdoors when the weather is good. But in summer is full of mosquitoes...


Además de Cico, estos son otros amigos a los que tenía muchas ganas de ver. A la izquierda está Francesca, con la que compartí excavaciones en Toscana en 2003, 2004 y 2005. No le veía desde hacía 6 años. La chica rubia es Annabelle, mi compañera de piso alemana de Oxford que ahora vive en Milán. No le veía desde que me volví de Bahrein. Y el chico junto a mí es Luca, compañero de trabajo en Oxford Archaeology a quien ya has visto por el blog antes. No le veía desde hacía 3 años.

As well as Cico, these are other friends that I was really keen to meet. Francesca is to the left, I shared excavations with her in Tuscany in 2003, 2004 and 2005. I hadn't seen her for 6 years. The blonde girl is Annabelle, my German housemate in Oxford who now lives in Milan. I hadn't seen her since I was back from Bahrain. And the guy next to me is Luca, work colleague in Oxford Archaeology whom you have already seen on the blog before. I hadn't seen him for 3 years.


Cenando con Cico (en la foto superior, a la izquierda), Annabelle y algunos amigos de Cico. Además de ser un anfitrión sobresaliente, es un fantástico cocinero. Conocí a Cico en 2003 cuando estuvo estudiando en mi ciudad. La última vez que le vi fue hace 6 años, ¡y el tío está igual!

Having dinner with Cico (on the upper photo, to the left), Annabelle and some of Cico's friends. As well as being a superb host, he is an extraordinary cook. I met Cico when he was studying in my home-city. The last time I saw him was 6 years ago, and he still looks exactly the same!


La casa de Cico, que comparte actualmente con un hermano suyo, es guay y tiene un montón de cosas para ver, libros, objetos curiosos... Me encanta este cartel de Casablanca, que estaba justo al lado de la cama donde yo dormía.

Cico's place, which he is currently sharing with one of his brothers, is cool and has a lot of things to see, books, strange objects... I love this poster of Casablanca, which was right next to the bed where I was sleeping.


Ya he dicho que Cico es un magnífico cocinero y además no puede estar quieto. Como él mismo dice, necesita estar siempre haciendo algo con las manos. El domingo por la mañana se puso a hacer la pasta que nos comimos al mediodía: la mejor pasta que he comido en mi vida...

I have already said that Cico is a great cook and besides he can not stand still. As he himself says, he needs to be always doing something with his hands. On Sunday morning, he made the pasta that we ate at lunchtime: the best pasta I have ever eaten...


Cambiamos de nuevo de ubicación para enseñarte un par de fotos del torneo de baloncesto de Düsseldorf. En la foto de arriba estamos todos los que jugamos, aunque algunos no son habituales en el equipo. Aún sin conocernos apenas, dimos guerra y jugamos bien. En ese equipo de ocho jugadores hay seis nacionalidades: Alemania, España, Eslovaquia, Croacia, Mongolia y Venezuela.

We chance the location again to show you a couple of photos of the basketball tournament in Düsseldorf. On the upper picture you see the team, although some of the players don't play with us usually. Even though we didn't know each other, we played well and made it difficult for other teams. In that team of eight players there are six nationalities: Germany, Spain, Slovakia, Croatia, Mongolia and Venezuela.


Y por último, por hoy, esta foto que saqué en Semana Santa frente al Bundestag, el parlamento alemán. El tiempo durante esos días fue inmejorable y disfruté mucho mi visita a esa ciudad que me encanta. También me gustó mucho poder volver a ver a mis amigos Yann, Ben y Paulina. Definitivamente Berlín no sería lo mismo sin ellos...

And finally, so far, this picture that I took in Easter in fron of the Bundestag, the German Parlament building. The weather during those days was excellent and I enjoyed a lot the visit to that city which I love. I was also very glad to see again my friends Yann, Ben and Paulina. Berlin would definitely not be the same without them...
