The Tour 2013

My friend Iñaki knows that one day I will be a star (hahaha!!) and he refers to my travelling plans as "The Tour" and to my trips as "gigs". He says that nothing can stop me once I start visiting places, I am always talking about the next stop, booking tickets, that party here, that city there... After the great time in Istanbul, I said in my previous entry that there was nothing in sight other than a weekend in Düsseldorf and a couple of days in Cologne. Well, with these trips I think I can officially inaugurate The Tour 2013. I am feeling good and I want to keep travelling.

The weekend in Düsseldorf for the Düssel Cup (the same basketball tournament that I played two years ago) was probably one of the most exhausting of my life but definitely a great one too, very intense in all aspects and enjoyable: the best company, great food, party at night, basketball, walks, laughter and more... I had such a great time from Friday to Monday that I even decided to go back the weekend after, taking a day of an already planned trip to Cologne for Easter (the two cities are very close). Things in Cologne went very well too and I even had the chance to have an unexpected afternoon meeting with my cousin, who lives in Spain but happened to be nearby. Hot chocolate, beer, walks and meals in hers and her partner's company: wonderful.

After these plans in North Rhine-Westphalia, the chance to spend a weekend in Amsterdam came up and I didn't say no. They were actually less than 48 hours visiting and an acquainted. I didn't have the time to see any museum and I preferred to enjoy the company and have a general first impression of the city; it is a place where I will certainly go back at some point soon. Instead, and given the fact that the weather was decent, we cycled up and down the city having a sight of the most important places. I must say that my guide knew everything about every building, it was very enriching. The weekend was also complete with some drinks out at night and good food.

But, as I said, The Tour 2013 has started and now I can't stop. My next gig will be London in May. I know, it doesn't sound like anything exciting since I visit it every year. This year I had planned not to travel to the UK at all actually... It would have been the first time since I moved there in 2007. You know, I want to visit more new places (like Istanbul or Amsterdam), but the reason to go back this time is something unique: the Basketball Euroleague's Final Four. It is an event that takes place in a different European city every season where the four best teams of Europe compete for the trophy. I have always wanted to attend a Final Four and the opportunity of seeing it in London was too good to let it pass. So, there I will be!!

After that, I will visit Vienna, very much looking forward too. I will spend 5 days, time enough for many things and hopefully for a day trip to Bratislava too. I have heard it is pretty easy to make it there by boat along the Danube. It would be very cool. I've also booked tickets to go briefly in August to Vitoria and meet my new nephew born last February. And between Vienna and Vitoria there is a big gap that I will probably fill with a visit to some German cities, we'll see if I can confirm some plans for June and July.

La Gira 2013

Mi amigo Iñaki sabe que algún día yo seré una estrella (¡¡jajaja!!) y a mis planes de viaje les llama "La Gira" y a las escapadas "bolos". Dice que nada me puede parar cuando ya he empezado a visitar otros lugares, siempre estoy hablando de la próxima parada, comprando billetes, la fiesta aquí, la ciudad de allá... Después del momentazo Estambul, dije en mi entrada anterior que no había nada a la vista más que un fin de semana en Düsseldorf y un par de días en Colonia. Pues bien, con estos viajes creo que puedo dar por oficialmente inaugurada La Gira 2013. Me siento bien y quiero seguir viajando.

El fin de semana en Düsseldorf para la Düssel Cup (el mismo torneo de baloncesto que ya jugué hace un par de años) fue probablemente uno de los más agotadores de mi vida pero fue también grandioso, muy intenso en todos los aspectos: la mejor compañía, comida buenísima, fiesta por la noche, baloncesto, paseos, risas y más... Me lo pasé tan bien de viernes a lunes que incluso decidí volver el fin de semana siguiente, cogiendo uno de los días de la ya planeada estancia en Colonia para Semana Santa (las dos ciudades están muy cerca). Todo en Colonia fue muy bien también e incluso tuve una inesperada cita con mi prima, que vive en España pero resulta que estaba por aquí. Chocolate caliente, cerveza, paseo y comilona en su compañía y la de su pareja: maravilloso.

Después de estos planes en Renania del Norte-Westfalia, surgió la oportunidad de pasar un fin de semana en Amsterdam y yo no dije que no. En realidad fueron menos de 48 horas visitando a un conocido. No tuve tiempo de ver ningún museo y preferí disfrutar de la compañía y tener una primera impresión general de la ciudad; es un lugar al que seguro que volveré pronto.En cambio, y dado que el tiempo era decente, anduvimos para arriba y para abajo con las bicicletas por toda la ciudad echándole un vistazo a los lugares más importantes. He de decir que mi guía lo sabía todo de cada edificio, fue muy enriquecedor. El fin de semana se completó también con algunos tragos por la noche y buena comida.

Pero, como decía, La Gira 2013 ha empezado y ahora no puedo parar. El próximo bolo será Londres en Mayo. Ya sé que no suena a nada especial porque lo visito todos los años. Este año tenía pensado no ir al Reino Unido para nada... Habría sido la primera vez desde que me fui allí en 2007. Ya sabes, quiero visitar nuevos lugares (como Estambul o Amsterdam), pero la razón para volver esta vez es algo único: la Final a Cuatro de la Euroliga de Baloncesto. Es un evento que cada temporada se celebra en una ciudad europea diferente y en el que los cuatro mejores equipos de Europa compiten por el trofeo. Siempre he querido ir a una Final a Cuatro y la oprtunidad de verla en Londres era demasiado buena para dejarla pasar. ¡¡Así que allí estaré!!

Después de eso, visitaré Viena, que tengo muchas ganas también. Pasare 5 días, tiempo suficiente para muchas cosas y espero que además pueda pasar un día en Bratislava. Tengo entendido que es muy fácil ir en barco navegando por el Danubio. Estaría guay. También he comprado billetes para una visita rápida en Agosto a Vitoria y conocer a mi nuevo sobrino, que nació en Febrero. Y entre Viena y Vitoria hay un hueco muy grande que probablemente rellenaré visitando alguna ciudad alemana, ya veremos si puedo confirmar algunos planes para Junio y Julio.
