Cycle Oxford 2.0

Sunday morning. I wake up feeling cold despite the duvets which cover me. I have a weird feeling, in a bed which is not mine. I open a bit one eye. I look around and I see that I am in a small bedroom, rather smaller than mine. It is full of stuff still untidy. I recognise the stuff, it is mine. The walls have had the same sad wallpaper for very long time. The ceiling is also papered and the floor covered with an ugly carpet. It is a typical British house. It is cosy. There is a small window, facing a backyard, also small.

I hear some noises outside, on the ground floor, right under me. They sound like kitchen noises. I hear voices. I know who they are, but I hardly know them. They are not the people I am used to see every day in my house.

I keep watching everything like a man from the Stone Age frozen for millenniums and unfrozen now. I don't know what to do now nor where to go. I'm a bit disorientated, I don't feel safe and with self confidence. I am on a strange ground. I think I'll go downstairs to the kitchen and see if I can find anything to have breakfast. I'll get used soon. This is just the first morning in my new house after yesterday's move in.

Ciclo Oxford 2.0

Domingo por la mañana. Me despierto con frío a pesar de los edredones que me cubren. Me encuentro con una sensación extraña, en una cama que no es la mía. Abro un poco un ojo. Miro alrededor y veo que estoy en una habitación pequeña, bastante más pequeña que la mía. Está llena de cosas aún desordenadas. Reconozco las cosas, esas sí son mías. Las paredes están tristemente empapeladas hace mucho tiempo. El techo también está empapelado y el suelo cubierto con una fea moqueta. Es una típica casa británica. Es acogedora. Hay una ventana pequeña, da a un patio trasero, también pequeño.

Oigo algunos ruidos fuera, en la planta baja, justo debajo de mí. Parecen ruidos de cocina. Oigo voces. Sé quiénes son, pero apenas les conozco. No son las personas que estoy acostumbrado a ver todos los días en mi casa.

Sigo observando todo como un hombre de la Edad de Piedra congelado durante milenios y vuelto a descongelar. No sé qué hacer ahora ni a dónde ir. Estoy un poco desorientado, no me siento seguro ni con soltura. Estoy en un terreno extraño. Creo que bajaré a la cocina y veré si encuentro algo para desayunar. Pronto me acostumbraré. Esta sólo es la primera mañana en mi nueva casa tras el traslado de ayer.

Hi visitor. I've got something different to tell you today. Not really related to the usual stuff I write about, but something that has happened due to a third person: Kayo. She's a Japanese blogger whose blog I enjoy reading as she always writes about facts of the normal life in her hometown: the 'massive' Osaka. Her point of view about the environment that surrounds her is always very interesting as she usually tells the fact itself and then she adds some personal opinion or anecdote related to it. Not only 'harmonious' stuff but also controversial issues, social problems... Even sometimes things that, as she points, Japanese people don't even question. Then other bloggers and readers (from Japan but also from abroad) make also interesting comments about what they see in their countries or what they experienced when they visited Japan. This turns the blog into a meeting point for people who contribute with their (our) bit to enrich the topic of the post. Well, the thing is that she has 'tagged' my blog so I have some duties to fullfill now as a blogger I also am! Let me tell you how this works and then I'll do my task...

1. Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog; some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they are tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Well, the first step is done by posting the rules. Now I have to introduce her to you. Here she is: Kayo from Osaka, whose blog is Osaka Life. Don't miss it!

The second step is sharing 7 facts about myself, something random or weird... Hummm...

1) I have travelled to countries far away from my hometown, but I haven't yet visited some of the most important and beautiful cities/places in my own country even though they are not that far. This has a perfectly understandable reason which is not to explain here now, but has to do with opportunities I've had and I couldn't refuse. Apart from a journey I did when I was 11, I hadn't got on a plane until I was 22. However, I haven't stopped since then. At the beggining I counted the number of times I had got on a plane, but I lost the count some time ago when they were about 30 or 40.

2) When I was a child I was pretty duper. I never fought other boys because I was going to lose always. I used to be quite friendly anyway and few times had to fight (fortunately I had some good friend next to me to defend me). I wasn't gifted at all. I think part of my 'success' in the life comes from being a thoughtful person, responsible, make always the right decision and being tall, as people usually has more respect for tall guys, at least at the beginning.

3) When I had to go to the university I didn't know what to do as I wasn't really interested in anything. I chose Art History by chance in the last minute. Once there, I chose Archaeology by chance in the last minute. Today I am a (buildings) archaeologist. Despite it being one of the most vocational professions, I never meant to be one. Despite me never meaning to be one, I like it a lot.

4) I have spent the last 3 years of my life trying to make a decision between learning French, German, Arabic, improving my Italian or playing a musical instrument. After this time, I haven't started doing anything and I'm still deciding, wasting my time and keeping busy with other stuff (at least I'm now learning a lot about free software and open source...)

5) I hate the sensation of neglect, although I enjoy being lonely very often. Thanks to those who can understand these key facts of my personality and help me to keep a balance, I consider myself the luckiest person in the world.

6) I can't swim. I hate putting my head and face into the deep water. My eyes were made for seeing, my nose for breathing, my lungs for taking air, legs for walking, hands for picking stuff and my ears for hearing. I can not do any of these things when I put my head into the water. Although I have thought sometimes I have some kind of hydrophobia, the truth is that I love being into the water, especially in the sea, lakes, rivers... open water. But always touching the bottom and with my head above the water level. I love the sensation of the shower though and I enjoy being long time under the stream.

7) Although I know it sounds easy to say being 27 as I am, I think that getting older is a great experience. When people are getting older they try to hide it, renouncing their own life. Most of my grandparents have passed away, my father passed away, some people I knew passed away... I totally agree with something I read once: getting one year older is always better than the alternative. When I grow up... I want to be old.


Well, now I have to tag seven people and tell their names and blogs. Since I read blogs in three languages -English, Italian and Spanish- I will mark 7 between both languages. Some of them are blogs about their authors' lives, some others about technical or professional stuff, others have mixed stories, others are about hobbies... I guess the authors can just explain the seven facts related to whatever they want or their blogs' topic. Not only personal things. But since my blog is a personal one, I decided to tell 7 personal facts. It's a pity that I can not tag back Kayo! Well, in no particular order, here they are:

I- I tag Eumelvi because his blog Ecce Homo (Google Translator) was the first one I started to read regularly. I enjoy it because he writes about everything: his life, open source, situations he lives, global problems... Depending on his mood. On top of that, he has good albums of photos. I found it by chance when I was checking that there was no other weblog address like eccerafa.
II- I tag Anna because her blog The Biting Wires is meant to be a reflection of her academical development from now on in this new stretch of her career she has just started. She has another two, but this is the one I like the most and I hope she keeps writing it. If you thought you knew everything about Egypt... read her! And also do it if you know nothing ;o)
III- I tag Olalla because I find her blog Life and Death funny as well as interesting and very personal sometimes. Besides, her purpose is roughly the same as mine: keeping in contact with people she loves who are away from her. And also because she has recently started to write in English and I want to encourage her.
IV- I tag Jasvazquez because his blog Informático de Guardia (Google Translator) is probably the best I have recently found: funny, easy to read, extremely interesting, extremely useful... Specially for people who are just starting with the open source software as he offers thousands of tips and examples about how to make things easy. The examples are very clear, have pictures, colours... The best part of it is that he has started little time ago so I can read it from the beginning and don't miss anything. I love blogs like this for people like me.
V- I tag Joseph Reeves because his blog Digital Finds is by far the one that I understand the least. That means that he is really good at what he writes! 99% stuff related to the application of open source software and technologies to the Archaeology. He's one of my personal Linux gurus.
VI- I tag Lux because his blog Archaeology is SCIENCE (Google Translator) has been stopped since the end of May and I want him to keep writing! He includes also plenty of photos and speaks sometimes about plenty things. I think there are no 2 entries speaking about the same stuff, hehehe.
VII- And last but not least, I tag Javier Fernández because his blog Música? Sí, pero de la buena (Google Translator) is about good music and I enjoy music. He posts plenty of videos and add comments about the authors/bands, so it is nice to read it as he hands us the songs in a platter.

Well. This has been today's entry. I hope they enjoy tagging as much as I did and you have discovered another blog you like.

Hola visitante. Tengo algo diferente que contarte hoy. En realidad nada relacionado con lo que habitualmente escribo sino algo que ha ocurrido debido a una tercera persona: Kayo. Ella es una blogger japonesa cuyo blog me gusta leer porque siempre escribe sobre cosas de la vida diaria en su ciudad natal: la gigantesca Osaka. Su punto de vista del ambiente que le rodea es siempre muy interesante porque normalmente cuenta el hecho en sí y luego añade alguna opinión personal o anécdota relacionada con ello. No sólo cosas 'armoniosas' sino también asuntos controvertidos, problemas sociales... Incluso a veces cosas que, como ella señala, los japoneses ni siquiera cuestionan. Entonces otros bloggers y lectores (de Japón pero también de otros países) hacen también comentarios interesantes sobre lo que ven en sus países o lo que experimentaron cuando visitaron Japón. Esto convierte el blog en un punto de encuentro para personas que contribuyen (contribuimos) con un granito de arena a enriquecer el tema del post. Bueno, el asunto es que ella ha 'marcado' mi blog y ahora ¡tengo algunas obligaciones que cumplir como blogger que soy! Te cuento de qué va esto y luego hago lo que me toca...

1. Enlazar a la persona que te ha marcado y postear estas reglas en tu blog.
2. Contar 7 hechos sobre ti mismo en tu blog; algo aleatorio, algo raro.
3. Marcar 7 personas al final de tu entrada dejando sus nombres y enlaces a sus blogs.
4. Hacerles saber que han sido marcados dejando un comentario en sus blogs.

Bien, el primer paso está hecho al haber posteado estas normas. Ahora tengo que presentarte a ella. Aquí está: Kayo de Osaka (Traductor Google), cuyo blog es Osaka Life (Traductor Google). ¡No te lo pierdas!
El segundo paso es contar 7 cosas sobre mi, algo aleatorio o raro... Ermmm...

1) He viajado a países muy lejanos de mi ciudad natal, pero aún no he visitado algunas de las ciudades/lugares más bonitos e importantes de mi propio país incluso aunque no están tan lejos. Esto tiene una explicación perfectamente entendible que no voy a contar ahora, pero tiene que ver con oportunidades que he tenido y no pude rechazar. Aparte de un viaje que hice cuando tenía 11 años, no me había montado en un avión hasta que tuve 22. Sin embargo, no he parado desde entonces. Al principio contaba el número de veces que me subía a un avión, pero he perdido la cuenta hace algún tiempo cuando iba unas 30 ó 40.

2) Cuando era un crío era bastante pardillo. Nunca me peleaba con otros chavales porque iba a perder siempre. De todas formas, solía ser bastante amistoso y pocas veces tuve que pelearme (por suerte siempre tuve algún amigo cerca para defenderme). No se me daba bien nada. Creo que parte de mi 'éxito' en la vida viene por ser una persona pensativa, responsable, tomar siempre la decisión correcta y ser alto, ya que normalmente la gente tiene más respeto hacia la gente alta, al menos al principio.

3) Cuando tuve que ir a la universidad no sabía qué hacer porque no estaba interesado en nada. Elegí Historia del Arte por casualidad en el último minuto. Una vez ahí, elegí Arqueología por casualidad en el último minuto. Hoy soy arqueólogo (de edificios). A pesar de ser una de las profesiones más vocacionales, yo nunca pensé llegar a serlo. A pesar de no pretender llegar a serlo, me gusta mucho.

4) He pasado los últimos 3 años de mi vida intentando decidir entre aprender francés, alemán, árabe, mejorar mi italiano o tocar un instrumento musical. Después de este tiempo, no he empezado a hacer nada y aún estoy decidiendo, malgastando el tiempo y manteniéndome ocupado con otras cosas (al menos ahora estoy aprendiendo un montón sobre software libre y código abierto...)

5) No puedo soportar la sensación de abandono, aunque a menudo disfruto estando solo. Gracias a aquellos que puede entender estos hechos claves de mi personalidad y me ayudan a mantener el equilibrio, me considero la persona más afortunada del mundo.

6) No sé nadar. Odio meter la cabeza en el agua. Mis ojos se hicieron para ver, my nariz para respirar, mis pulmones para tomar aire, piernas para andar, manos para coger cosas y mis orejas para oír. No puedo hacer ninguna de estas cosas cuando meto la cabeza en el agua. Aunque algunas veces he pensado que tengo algún tipo de hidrofobia, lo cierto es que me encanta meterme en el agua, especialmente en el mar, lagos, ríos... aguas abiertas. Pero siempre tocando el fondo y con la cabeza por encima del agua. Me encanta la sensación de la ducha en cambio, y me gusta mucho pasar largo rato bajo en chorro.

7) Aunque ya sé que suena fácil de decir teniendo 27 como tengo, creo que hacerse mayor es una gran experiencia. Cuando la gente se hace mayor trata de ocultarlo, renunciando a lo que ha sido su propia vida. La mayoría de mis abuelos fallecieron, mi padre falleció, otra gente que conocí falleció... Estoy totalmente de acuerdo con algo que leí una vez: cumplir un año más siempre es mejor que la alternativa. Cuando sea mayor... quiero ser viejo.


Bueno, ahora tengo que marcar a siete personas y decir sus nombres y blogs. Como leo blogs en tres idiomas -inglés, italiano y español- marcaré 7 entre ambos idiomas. Algunos son blogs sobre la vida de sus autores, otros sobre temas técnicos o profesionales, otros tienen historietas mezcladas, otros son sobre aficiones... Imagino que los autores pueden explicar siete hechos sobre lo que quieran o relacionados con el tema de sus blogs. No sólo aspectos personales. Pero como el mío es personal, decidí contar cosas personales. ¡Es una pena que no puedo marcar de vuelta a Kayo! Bien, sin un orden particular, aquí están:

I- Marco a Eumelvi porque su blog Ecce Homo fue el primero que empecé a leer regularmente. Lo disfruto porque escribe acerca de todo: su vida, código abierto, situaciones que vive, problemas globales... Depende de su humor. Encima tiene buenos álbumes de fotos. Lo encontré por casualidad cuando estaba comprobando que no hubiera otro blog con una dirección weblog como eccerafa.
II- Marco a Anna porque su blog The Bitting Wires (Traductor Google) pretende ser un reflejo de su desarrollo académico de ahora en adelante en este nuevo tramo de su carrera que acaba de empezar. Tiene otros dos, pero este es el que más me gusta y espero que lo siga escribiendo. Si pensabas que lo sabías todo sobre Egipto... ¡léele! Y hazlo también si no sabes nada ;o)
III- Marco a Olalla porque encuentro su blog Life and Death divertido además de interesante. Además, su propósito es más o menos como el mío: mantener el contacto con la gente que quiere y se encuentran lejos de ella. Y también porque ha empezado hace poco a escribir en inglés y quiero animarle. Escribe en gallego e inglés, pero si eres hispanoparlante no tendrás mucho problema con el gallego.
IV- Marco a Jasvazquez porque su blog Informático de Guardia es probablemente el mejor que he descubierto últimamente: divertido, fácil de leer, extremadamente interesante, extremadamente útil... Sobretodo para los que están empezando con el software de código abierto ya que ofrece miles de consejillos y ejemplos sobre cómo hacer las cosas fáciles. Los ejemplos son muy claros, tiene imágenes, colores... Lo mejor de todo es que ha empezado hace poco tiempo así que puedo leerlo desde el principio y no perderme nada. Me encanta que haya blogs como este para gente como yo.
V- Marco a Joseph Reeves porque su blog Digital Finds (Traductor Google) es de lejos el que menos entiendo. ¡Eso quiere decir que es realmente bueno en lo que escribe! El 99% son cosas relacionadas con la aplicación del software de código abierto y las tecnologías a la Arqueología. Él es uno de mis gurús personales de Linux.
VI- Marco a Lux porque su blog Archaeology is SCIENCE (Traductor Google) está parado desde finales de Mayo ¡y quiero que siga escribiendo! Además incluye un montón de fotos y a veces habla sobre muchísimas cosas. Creo que no hay 2 entradas que hablen de lo mismo, jejeje.
VII- Y por último pero no por ello menos importante, marco a Javier Fernández porque su blog Música? Sí, pero de la buena es sobre buena música y yo disfruto con la música. Postea muchos vídeos y añade comentarios sobre autores/bandas, así que está bien leerlo y nos sirve las canciones en bandeja.
